Why the same solution
ruins wool and leaves
nylon spotless.

Most cleaning operators use a single alkaline solution across every job. On nylon that's fine — nylon handles pH 10 without complaint. On a $12,000 Axminster wool rug, the same solution swells the fibre shaft, breaks the cuticle scale, and leaves a halo of permanent discolouration around every treated patch.

“We pH-test every carpet before we fill the tank. Wool gets a 6.5-neutral rinse. Nylon gets our enzyme-activated alkaline blend. The fibres tell you what they need — you just have to listen.”

Steamlift's technicians carry four solution concentrates on every truck. Before attaching a single wand, Daniel checks the fibre composition — either from the care label or, on older installations, a burn test on a sacrificial edge. The truck's 300-litre onboard tank is then dosed to a tolerance of ±0.2 pH units.

On Sydney's Northern Beaches and Lower North Shore, where heritage wool broadloom is common in pre-war homes, this step alone separates a restoration from a replacement claim.

200 units.
Quarterly.
On schedule.

A Parramatta strata manager came to us after their previous contractor missed the third-quarter rotation on a 12-floor residential complex — leaving 47 units with carpets that had been on the schedule for six months.

“They mobilised two rigs on a Saturday, cleared 68 units by Sunday 4pm, and left a fibre-depth report for each apartment. I've been on a quarterly contract with them since.”

Strata complexes present a logistics challenge most carpet cleaners aren't equipped for: coordinating building access, lift bookings, resident notification windows, and waste-water disposal across 200 individual units — all without disturbing occupied tenancies during business hours.

Steamlift runs two-truck rotations with a dedicated strata coordinator who handles building management communication from quote through completion. The fibre-depth report delivered after each rotation gives body corporate committees auditable evidence of maintenance for insurance and building inspection purposes.

Why dry compound
fails on Sydney's
humid coast.

Dry compound cleaning was engineered for arid climates where residual moisture evaporates in minutes. On Sydney's Eastern Suburbs and Northern Beaches — where ambient humidity sits at 65–78% through summer — compound residue stays damp, binds to soil particles, and accelerates re-soiling within three to four weeks of treatment.

Steamlift Method

Hot-Water Extraction

Truck-mounted units deliver 95°C water at 500 PSI into the carpet pile, dissolving oil-bonded soils that cold water cannot reach. The simultaneous vacuum recovers 95% of injected moisture — leaving carpets dry in 3–4 hours regardless of ambient humidity.

“Dry compound is a hotel product — designed for high-traffic areas that need to open again in 20 minutes. For residential and strata carpet health on the Sydney coast, it's the wrong tool.”

I was preparing for a settlement inspection with 12-year-old wool carpet in the main living area. Steamlift restored the pile to a depth I hadn't seen since we moved in. The agent commented unprompted.

We rotate through 200 units quarterly. Steamlift is the only contractor who's delivered on time for three consecutive years. The fibre-depth reports they provide are exactly what our body corporate needs.
